About Brooke…
Brooke was born in Ipswich, Queensland and raised in the spirited suburb of Goodna, where she grew up as the youngest of seven children in a home that technically sat within the “city limits” but lived by “old‑time” values. Life was loud, musical, and full of character — the kind of upbringing where stories were currency and family history was passed down around kitchen tables, in backyards, and through the songs that played on repeat.

About Brooke….
Much of Brooke’s imagination was shaped by her grandmother, Albertina, whose tales of the “olden days” sparked a lifelong fascination with history, nostalgia, and the quiet resilience of everyday people. Those stories planted the seeds of a writer long before Brooke ever thought of herself as one. When she later discovered Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson, something clicked — their ability to capture the heart of Australia in simple, powerful language became a compass for her own creative voice.
Music soon became another way of understanding the world. Singing and playing the songs of John Williamson and Slim Dusty helped Brooke connect to a country she hadn’t fully explored but felt deeply. Their honesty, humour, and reverence for the land shaped her approach to storytelling: grounded, heartfelt, and unmistakably Australian.
Brooke’s creative promise was recognised early. She earned her first major accolade as the 2004 Ellaways Music Queensland Champion of Champions Festival Songwriter of the Year, a moment that affirmed her voice as a storyteller and balladeer. That early encouragement set the foundation for a career built on craft, curiosity, and a deep respect for the stories that shape us.
Over the years, Brooke’s work has continued to evolve, earning further recognition. She is the 2026 Thornton Young Award recipient, the CCMA 2022 National Lyricist of the Year, a 2025 Tamworth Songwriters Association Finalist (Lyrics Only), and a multiple nominee and Top 10 finalist in the Australian Songwriters Association Awards 2025. These acknowledgements reflect not only her dedication to the written word but her commitment to capturing the spirit of the people and places that highlight the Australian identity.
Today, Brooke’s creative practice remains rooted in the influences that formed her: family stories, Australian voices, and a deep fascination with the past. Whether she’s writing lyrics, crafting narratives, or exploring new creative projects, her work honours where she comes from and the stories she feels called to tell — stories of resilience, memory, and the quiet beauty found in everyday life.
